on: April 01 ,2020 In: Developing News

Despite starting to export Yellow Bananas only in mid-2019, Cambodia now exports an average of 795 tonnes of bananas each day. Cambodia had exported a total of 157,812 tonnes of yellow bananas last year and 72,182 tonnes during the first three months of this year.

Cambodia currently exports a large proportion of its bananas to China, while the rest is exported to Vietnam and Japan. Cambodia has three major yellow banana farms, all designated for exports, covering a total area of 4,996 ha in the Ratanakkiri, Kratie and Kampot provinces. There are also nine banana plantations and packaging facilities that have received approval for exports to China.

A Director of Longmate Agriculture Co Ltd, which has invested in 1,000 ha of banana plantation in the Kampot province and has exported over 10,000 tonnes of bananas to China, said that his company was finding it hard to export bananas fast enough to meet the demand in China. However, he said that the novel coronavirus will not have an impact on yellow bananas and other exports from Cambodia.
